Centrifugal Pump Installation & Operation Critical Pitfall Avoidance GuideI. 3 Fatal Errors to Avoid During Installation 1. Check valve must be installed on discharge side: Prevent water hammer caused by water column backflow after pump shutdown, avoiding impact from reverse rotation of impeller and pump casing cracking. 2. Strictly control suction lift within rated range: The pump installation height shall be lower than the maximum suction lift marked on the specification sheet to eliminate cavitation that corrodes impellers and pump chambers. 3. Fixed foundation and concentricity calibration are mandatory: Never place the pump directly on bare ground. A concrete base with shock-absorbing pads shall be built. The coaxiality error of couplings and pipeline connections shall not exceed 0.1 mm to avoid abrasion from vibration. II. 3 Major Loss Risks to Avoid During Operation 1. Frequent start-stop prohibited: The interval between each startup and shutdown shall be no less than 5 minutes, to prevent repeated impact on motor windings and premature failure of mechanical seals due to thermal expansion and contraction. 2. Strictly prevent air leakage on suction side: Suction pipelines and flanges shall be fully sealed. All air inside the pump chamber must be exhausted before priming to avoid motor burnout from dry running. 3. Overload operation forbidden: Monitor motor current regularly. Avoid overcurrent burnout of motors caused by impeller blockage under high-dust conditions or excessively small opening of outlet valves. III. Additional Protection Measures 1. Install a filter screen at the inlet to prevent foreign objects from jamming the impeller. 2. Equip the electric control box with delay start-stop and overcurrent protection modules. 3. Inspect wear of seals and bearings periodically, and replace wearing parts in advance. |
