ISG Vertical Pipeline Centrifugal Pump foundation installation instruction

Proper foundation installation for ISG vertical pipeline centrifugal pumps creates a stable, rigid base that absorbs operational vibration, maintains permanent shaft alignment, and prevents unintended structural settling over thousands of operating hours. Even small errors in foundation preparation can lead to misalignment, elevated noise levels, and premature bearing wear that require costly unplanned maintenance long before the pump reaches its designed service life. Every step of the installation process must follow consistent, field-validated practices to deliver reliable long-term performance.

Foundation Surface Preparation and Layout Marking

Before any concrete pouring or mounting work begins, confirm the selected foundation location provides unobstructed access for routine inspection, seal replacement, and future component disassembly. Mark the exact perimeter of the foundation on the ground, ensuring the overall dimensions extend at least 150 millimeters beyond the outer edges of the pump’s mounting footprint on all sides. This extra margin provides enough space for mounting bolt anchoring and allows minor adjustments during final alignment without modifying the base structure.

Remove all loose soil, debris, and unstable surface material from the marked area to create a solid, compacted subbase that can support the full static weight of the pump, motor, and connected piping, plus the dynamic loads generated during full-speed operation. Install temporary formwork around the perimeter of the marked foundation area, and position anchor bolt sleeves at the exact pre-measured positions that match the pump’s mounting foot pattern. Secure these sleeves firmly in place so they do not shift out of alignment when concrete is poured and cured.

Concrete Pouring and Curing Process

Use a concrete mix with sufficient compressive strength to withstand long-term cyclic loads without cracking or settling. Pour the concrete in a single continuous operation to eliminate weak construction joints that could compromise the overall rigidity of the finished foundation. Insert a layer of reinforcing steel bar mesh throughout the interior of the pour, positioned midway between the top and bottom surfaces, to distribute stress evenly and prevent crack propagation under dynamic operating conditions.

Level the top surface of the fresh concrete carefully with a straight edge, creating a flat, even plane that sits slightly above the surrounding floor level to prevent standing water from pooling around the pump mounting area. Allow the concrete to cure fully for the full specified time period before placing any equipment weight on the foundation. Never rush the curing process by applying excessive heat or placing loads prematurely, as this will lead to uneven settling that distorts the pump’s alignment after installation.

Mounting Foot Placement and Final Alignment Check

Once the foundation is fully cured, remove the formwork and clean the top surface thoroughly to eliminate all residual concrete dust, laitance, and loose debris. Place precision leveling shims directly under each pump mounting foot, arranging shim stacks to be as compact as possible with no more than three individual shims per stack. Each shim must extend fully across the entire contact area of the mounting foot to distribute load evenly without creating uneven support points.

Lower the pump and motor assembly onto the prepared foundation, then thread the anchor bolts through the pre-positioned sleeves and tighten them gradually in a crisscross pattern. Rotate the pump shaft by hand through its full range of motion to confirm no binding or unexpected resistance has been introduced by uneven mounting pressure. Perform a final level check across the top reference surface of the pump casing, and make minor adjustments to individual shim stacks as needed to bring the entire assembly within the required vertical alignment tolerance. After final positioning is confirmed, grout any remaining gaps between the mounting feet and foundation surface to lock the assembly permanently in place and prevent any future shifting during extended operation.
